The Australian Public Service (APS) has launched the Procurement and Contract Management Profession (PCM), which is open to all Australian Public Service officials who are interested in developing their procurement and contract management skills.
Richard Windeyer, Deputy Secretary at the Department of Finance and Julia Pickworth, Deputy Secretary at the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, have been appointed as co-heads to lead the initiative.
Charlotte Payne, CIPS General Manager ANZ, said although this is a Commonwealth initiative, its significance extends beyond government procurement, impacting all sectors and reaching beyond Australia.
“The stream represents a pivotal advancement, recognising the role of procurement and contract management in not only driving public value but also strengthening Australian industry,” she added.
Those who join the PCM scheme will receive updates from senior leaders on the latest policy developments and news in the discipline, be kept informed on the latest learning and development opportunities, and have greater access to networking with colleagues across the APS.
There will also be the opportunity to hear from buying, sourcing and business development experts across public and private sectors.
“We welcome all procurement and contract management officers, from beginners procuring on an ad hoc basis to specialists seeking to broaden their continuous professional development opportunities,” said the APS.
“The PCM Profession seeks to build an enduring professional workforce for the APS by establishing professional networks and communities, supporting specialist career development, and collaborating with Australian and international organisations to share knowledge and best practice.”
