Nine years out from the Brisbane Olympics Games the Queensland Government has fired the starter’s gun on a renewed procurement strategy presenting a $180 billion windfall for the state’s businesses.
The Palaszczuk government has launched its ‘Q2032 Procurement Strategy’ which it says will put local businesses in the “box seat” to share in government procurement between now and 2032.
Unveiled just after the Victorian Government pulled out of the Commonwealth Games, the new procurement strategy includes a published procurement pipeline plus, a 2032 Small Business Procurement Action Plan and small Business Procurement Advisor.
Since its introduction in 2017, the ‘Buy Queensland’ approach has seen 70,000 Queensland businesses share in $57.81 billion in government procurement, the Queensland Government says.
The government says the strategy will help Queensland businesses get ‘match fit’ to supply to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“This procurement approach multiplies the value of government spending and ensures the benefits are shared among Queenslanders,” the Queensland State Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.
“It creates more jobs and greater community benefits because every dollar we spend here in Queensland circulates throughout our economy many times over.”
The Queensland Government says about 6700 supplier representatives are on the Team Queensland register.
