Anti-Slavery Commissioner Chris Evans will host a virtual event on 11 December, exploring options, considerations and stakeholder perspectives on due diligence laws for Australia.
The webinar will see the launch of a new discussion paper analysing current reform options and their implications, alongside expert insights on due diligence models, international developments and lessons from the Modern Slavery Act.
There will also be a panel discussion on what meaningful reform could, and more importantly should, look like in Australia, with time for a Q&A session at the end.
Professor Justine Nolan, Director of the Australian Human Rights Institute at UNSW, will moderate the event, with guests set to include Macquarie University’s Professor Surya Deva and Pillar Two’s CEO Vanessa Zimmerman.
“Australia is entering a pivotal phase in strengthening its response to modern slavery,” said Chris Evans via LinkedIn.
“The Attorney-General’s Department will soon begin targeted consultations on key reforms to the Modern Slavery Act 2018, including a potential due diligence obligation for large businesses.
“To support this conversation, the Office of the Australian Anti-Slavery Commissioner is hosting a webinar with leading experts to explore options, considerations and stakeholder perspectives on due diligence laws for Australia.”
The Moving the Needle: Exploring Options for Due Diligence Laws to Combat Modern Slavery webinar will begin at 4pm AEDT on Thursday 11 December.
