The WA Government is staying “stronger together” when it comes to equality in procurement with more than 90 per cent of large suppliers meeting gender-related targets.
The Gender Equality in Procurement – WA Public Sector Pilot, launched by the Department of Communities, aims to promote gender equality in workplaces through government procurement.
The equality drive in procurement is an initiative of the Second Action Plan under the Stronger Together: WA’s Plan for Gender Equality (Stronger Together) whole-of-government, long-term plan to advance gender equality in WA.
The pilot successfully introduced a gender equality clause into procurement processes, with the support of the Department of Finance.
The number of participating government agencies has grown to 19, resulting in 101 contracts worth $166,823,739.
Larger suppliers are required to demonstrate compliance with gender equality reporting requirements, while smaller suppliers are evaluated based on their policies and initiatives.
Data from the WA Government shows that more than 92 per cent of companies of this size seeking government contracts are meeting their obligations under the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012.
