Leading Gen AI consultancy and strategic advisory firm The Hackett Group has announced its acquisition of Spend Matters, in a strategic move that will allow it to strengthen procurement and supply chain technology expertise.
Founded in 2004, Spend Matters – a leader in the procurement and supply chain solutions market intelligence sector – has established itself as an esteemed authority in the industry, providing a respected combination of insights, analysis and solutions that assists organisations in optimising their procurement processes.
The acquisition, which will be led by Spend Matters’ strategic product development and research expansion expert Carina Kuhl, will strengthen The Hackett Group’s position in the procurement and supply chain market intelligence sector, allowing it to expand its capabilities.
The Hackett Group plans to integrate Spend Matters’ expertise and resources into its existing offerings, providing clients with enhanced insights and solutions to navigate the evolving procurement landscape.
Ted Fernandez, CEO of The Hackett Group, said the organisation is thrilled to combine its collective strengths in data-driven market intelligence and executive advisory with the innovative capabilities of Spend Matters’ platform and products.
“This acquisition not only deepens our procurement and supply chain insights but also positions us to extend our market intelligence into adjacent domains, enabling broader impact for our clients across the enterprise,” he said.
Kuhl echoed Fernandez’s sentiments, explaining that Spend Matters has built a two-decade-long reputation for powering critical technology, product marketing and investment decisions for buyers, vendors, consultants and investors in procurement and supply chain.
“Now, by joining forces with The Hackett Group, we’ll elevate that intelligence, embedding it into a broader, data-driven advisory model that delivers even greater strategic value for both buyers and vendors,” she said.
Andy Warzecha, Principal and Executive Advisory Practice Leader at The Hackett Group, said the acquisition will allow a more complete and connected view of the procurement and supply chain technology landscape, helping executives make faster, more confident decisions.
“Spend Matters’ advanced platforms, including TechMatch™ and SolutionMap, add powerful technology-driven capabilities to our executive advisory model, helping clients translate vendor intelligence into strategic action with speed and precision,” he added.
Pierre Mitchell, who – alongside Jason Busch and Lisa Reisman – sold Spend Matters to Copley Equity Partners LLC in 2021, took to LinkedIn to share his personal thoughts.
“Our acquisition by Hackett is a great story for the market, but at a personal level, I’m relieved that the firm and its amazing people and IP have found a great home,” he said.
“Hackett has deep IP and expertise on empirically benchmarked procurement performance (and insights on the needed capabilities to perform and transform, including digital capabilities). On the flip side, Spend Matters has similar deeply empirical benchmarks and expertise on the supply side; i.e. how well vendors in the ecosystem deliver those digital capabilities.
“The combination of this intelligence (and expertise using it) allows an efficient, transparent and granularly quantifiable link between vendor solutions to close the procurement digital capability gaps (and use the data to support ROI models that help self-fund that gap-closing).
“Bottom line: Hackett will get preferred access to deep vendor intelligence and Spend Matters will get access to a deep practitioner base to better hone its vendor intelligence and research/benchmarking/advisory. Spend Matters will take the lead on scaling up this capability within the Hackett’s Market Intelligence Program.”
