Procurement’s time to shine: RSL Lifecare’s David Tran

There’s momentum behind procurement in aged care which can propel the profession to further heights, says David Tran, Director of Procurement, RSL Lifecare.

David, a keynote speaker at PASA’s 2022 Aged Care Procurement Conference in Sydney, believes the time is now for procurement to influence real change.

He said the profession has been elevated “to the forefront”, increasing expectations – and influence with managing supply chain risk, creating value and introducing sustainable procurement practices in aged care.

“In the last 12 months there’s been a spotlight on the procurement profession and certainly it’s an opportunity that we professional professionals can take advantage of,” David said.

David is currently Procurement Manager at RSL LifeCare, a not-for-profit aged care organisation based in Sydney.

He is responsible to the Chief Financial Officer for the delivery of procurement service that is efficient, agile, scalable and value-adding.

The organisation cares for people across NSW and ACT. Its service offerings include Home Care, Residential Aged Care, Retirement Living and Veterans’ Services.

At the Aged Care Procurement Conference David spoke about the challenge his team has had to collaborate actively with suppliers and internal customers in a geographically diverse supply chain and fast-paced internal transformation.

David said there’s some short-term challenges for aged care procurement relating to inflationary pressures and increasing costs such as electricity. David believes there is real opportunity to create influence by focusing internally in the business.
