Podcast: What research foretells about procurement with Art of Procurement and Gordon Donovan

Podcast Episode

PASA columnist Gordon Donovan joins Art of Procurement’s Philip Ideson to discuss what research predicts for procurement’s vision, priorities and opportunities.

Gordon’s role as Vice President of Research – Procurement & External Workforce at SAP provides him with a comprehensive view of the challenges, trends, opportunities and forces that are shaping and impacting procurement.

In this new episode of the Art of Procurement podcast, Gordon unpacks SAP’s 2024 Economist Impact Report, while discussing where procurement is currently at and what it can expect in the future.

You’ll learn:

  • How confidence in procurement is up but so is global uncertainty
  • Why digitisation is procurement’s top priority
  • Why procurement still has a way to go with AI
  • How procurement has valuable insights but why they’re not always acted upon
  • About a growing number of Centres of Excellence
  • The trending focus areas for procurement

“I think overall confidence levels in procurement have risen in the last two to three years, and this is both a good thing and a possible problem. We have the ‘in case of emergency’ break-glass moment for procurement, and it’s a good thing, right? Because we’ve shown that we can do that,” says Gordon.

“But the problem is we don’t know when things will start to settle down. Let’s be clear, it probably won’t be until after November, and we also have a whole lot of other different things going on that will impact the rest of the world.”
