Nicki Lau Young to lead procurement for New Zealand Defence Force

Nicki Lau Young has been appointed chief commercial officer for the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF).

Previously the head of procurement for Transpower New Zealand, Nicki will lead a dedicated team providing strategic and operational procurement and commercial management services, according to an official NZDF statement.

Throughout her career of more than two decades, Nicki has led the development and implementation of various long term procurement strategies and programs to ensure commercially sustainable arrangements.

In her previous roles with Transpower, she was responsible for providing commercial advice, procurement and sourcing, supply chain management and warehousing for New Zealand’s National Grid.

Most recently, she served as project director and program director at Greater Wellington Regional Council, where she led on the development of the future operating model for Wellington’s public transport services.

“I’m excited by this new chapter as chief commercial officer for the New Zealand Defence Force and I look forward to seeing what we can achieve together,” Nicki said. 

She takes over the baton from Barbara McCallum who stood in as NZDF’s chief commercial officer following Paul Howard’s departure.
