Increasing demand for sustainability skillset in procurement reports Cozens Mabel

Sustainability Skills

Sustainability skills are coveted within the procurement and supply chain sector, with a significant increase in their demand across both permanent and contracting roles over the last six months, covering most major sectors, reports Cozens Mabel.

In its latest quarterly newsletter, the specialist Australian recruitment firm says industry recruitment across permanent roles remained steady throughout the first three months of 2024, with higher than normal growth in January – typically a quieter month.

The majority of new hires filled junior to mid level roles across all sectors, but the senior end of the market saw a decline in new talent. Contractor numbers also decreased slightly over the quarter following several successive periods of growth.

Contributing to this, says company director Isla Cozens, is a focus by certain government agencies to reduce large contractor spends, which has resulted in the conversion of some contractor positions to permanent roles or reducing the number of contract extensions for longer term contractors.

Other factors include contractors moving into permanent roles and unemployment rates remaining low, while the general shortage of talent across the procurement and supply chain sector has seen contractors convert to permanent positions.

Predictions for the months ahead include a scale up of contractor resources to support 2024/25 financial year initiatives in the second half of the year.
