CIPS announces new permanent CEO

CIPS has announced that Ben Farrell MBE will be joining the organisation as permanent CEO from Monday 7 October.

Farrell takes over the position from interim CEO Matt Howell, who stepped into the role following the departure of Nick Welby last November.

In a leadership update to CIPS members, Alison Barto, Chair of the Global Board of Trustees at CIPS, said the organisation worked with an executive search agency and advertised the role on the CIPS website and social media channels to seek applications from both members and non-members.

“We received over 140 applications and a diverse set of 13 candidates were interviewed – hence the process was rigorous and why it has taken so long,” she said.

Farrell, who was awarded an MBE at 29 following an illustrious early career in the military, joins CIPS from the John Lewis Partnership where he served as Director of Operations, Planning and Delivery.

His previous experience also includes procurement and supply chain management, membership and digital transformation, plus knowledge of the charity sector where he is the Chair of the Invictus Games Foundation Programme Board.
