‘Networking’, what does it mean to you? Is it simply about meeting new people or is it about benefits you can obtain through your new found contacts?
When we asked current members of PASA CONNECT what they value most about their participation in the programme, the word ‘networking’ frequently comes up. But what do they mean when they talk about networking?
If we dig a little deeper, we see what they are really talking about is having the opportunity to do all or some of the following:
- Build valuable relationships with peers with similar roles, responsibilities and interests
- Gain exposure to new ideas and better or different ways of doing things
- Identify solutions to their current challenges
- Obtain real market intelligence, quickly and efficiently
- Benchmark themselves, their organisation, methods and capabilities
- Acquire new strategies, skills and techniques that make them more effective
- Gain access to resources that can assist them to be more effective and productive
- Enjoy the sense of belonging to a peer group or community that faces similar challenges
If we use these criteria as the benefits that can be obtained through networking, then it’s obviously about far more than just meeting new people. All of the above combine to make us more effective and productive, helping us grow both personally and professionally, and making us more valuable to our employer.
PASA CONNECT provides a platform for members to come together to collaborate, by learning with and from each other, to gain exposure to new and different strategies and tactics, and to build real ‘value networks’.
